Big and Bold Grant

Overview: Funds big and bold ideas that foster creative teaching and learning approaches that promote educational excellence in Hays CISD. Educational needs go beyond grants for classrooms and professional development. Big & Bold ideas can range from funding equipment for programs to assisting with program expansions, such as robotics.

Geographic Scope: Hays Consolidated Independent School District (HCISD), Kyle, Texas

  • Examples: equipment for programs, program expansions (e.g., robotics)

  • Funding Amount:

  • No cap on funding requests

  • Grant amounts awarded at discretion of HEF Board

  • Limited by amount of funds available to the Foundation
  • Important Notes:

  • Part of Excellence in Education Grants (EEG) program

  • Foundation is a funding source of last resort

  • Funds are intended to 'fill the gaps' of funding not available through other sources

  • Applicants must demonstrate due diligence in seeking primary sources of funding (district funds, boosters, PTAs, state and federal grants) before applying

  • Lack of demonstration of efforts to seek primary sources will negatively impact application consideration

  • Special Requirement: Grant applications involving Curriculum & Instruction (C&I) or technology must go through the EEG review process outlined in the EEG Grants FAQ

  • Depending on the request, restrictions may apply

  • For 2026-2027: Primary applicant MUST be enrolled in Employee Giving

    Application Process

    1. Enrollment Requirement (NEW for 2026-2027): Primary applicant MUST be enrolled in Employee Giving
    2. Application Opening: Applications open March 13th for 2026-2027 academic year
    3. Submit Application: Use the universal Excellence in Education Grant Application form
    4. Required Materials:
    - Budget Spreadsheet (available for download)
    - Grant Agreement documentation

    Application Details:

  • One UNIVERSAL form is used to submit to each of the 4 types of Excellence in Education grants (Innovative, Collaborative, Professional Development, and Big and Bold)

  • Applicants should carefully review FAQ's before applying

  • Special Note: If your Big & Bold application involves C&I or technology, it must go through the EEG review process outlined in the EEG Grants FAQ

  • Restrictions may apply depending on the request
