Overview

Beverage Container Recycling City/County Payment Program The Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) administers a program to provide opportunities for the beverage container recycling and litter cleanup activities. Pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 14581 (a)(3)(A) of the California Beverage Container Recycling and Litter Reduction Act, CalRecycle is distributing $10,500,000 in fiscal year 2024-25 to eligible cities and counties specifically for beverage container recycling and litter cleanup activities. Projects New or existing curbside recycling programs.Neighborhood drop-off recycling programs.Public education promoting beverage container recycling.Litter prevention and cleanup where the waste stream includes beverage containers that will be recycled.Cooperative regional efforts among two or more cities or counties, or both.Supporting AB 341 Mandatory Commercial Recycling requirements. Permanently-attached, multi-material recycling bins that include beverage container recycling.Litter reduction activities that include recycling beverage containers.Water Refill Stations:Expenses to install or replace water refill station infrastructure, plumbing, maintenance, attachments, education & outreach, or modifications.Advertising/Promotion:Send materials for prior approval from your CalRecycle Regional Representative.Education/Outreach:Send materials for prior approval from your CalRecycle Regional Representative.California Resource Recovery Association Conference:Limited to registration and travel for no more than 2 staff.Personnel Hours:The Program funds only direct time for increasing beverage container recycling.Litter Clean-up Events:Must include beverage containers as part of the waste stream and to be recycled. The program may fund supplies, personnel, and safety items.
