Betty Taylor Memorial Award for Emerging Artists in Visual Arts and Crafts

Status: Applications for 2026 are currently CLOSED

Funder: The Ellen (Betty) Taylor Memorial Fund at Community Foundation of Henderson County (CFHC), administered in partnership with the Arts Council of Henderson County

Purpose: To promote emerging artists who are in need of financial support for continued education in the field of visual arts and crafts. Supports career advancement through education, advanced projects, marketing, and related pursuits.

Geographic Scope: Henderson, Polk, and Transylvania counties, NC

Award Type: This is NOT a scholarship and cannot be applied to degree or certificate-granting courses or programs.

Key Focus: Conducting deeper study is a key element. Applicants must elaborate on study methods, mentoring, apprenticeships, and how the project relates to career advancement as an emerging artist in visual arts and crafts.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicant Type:

Individual artists, OR

Small, unincorporated groups of collaborating artists

Artist Status:

Emerging artists or established artists with strong record of artistic accomplishment appropriate to their career stage

Residency:

Must reside in Henderson, Polk, or Transylvania counties for a minimum of one year

Age:

Must be 18 years of age

If applying as a group, majority of artist group must be over 18

Other Requirements:

Cannot be a board or staff member of CFHC or Arts Council of Henderson County

Cannot be a spouse, family member, or significant other of board/staff members

Previous Taylor Award recipients are NOT eligible

Each member of a collaborating group must meet all eligibility requirements
