Benwood Foundation Grants

The Benwood Foundation Grants focus on fostering shared prosperity in Chattanooga by partnering with diverse stakeholders. They prioritize inclusive growth, particularly for Black and Latinx communities, and support initiatives in urban vitality, talent, economic opportunity, leadership engagement, and cultural belonging. The foundation is committed to creating equitable pathways to success and addressing systemic barriers. Proposals are invited from strategic partners aligned with these goals, emphasizing collaboration for greater community impact.

NOTE: While we do not accept unsolicited grant requests, we are eager to find long-term, strategic partners that work within our priority areas. The Benwood Foundation is a private foundation focused on supporting shared prosperity in Chattanooga through strategic grant-making, collaborative problem-solving, and adaptive leadership. We partner with a number of entities – including nonprofits, other foundations, local government, community leaders, and businesses – to accomplish this work.
Focus Areas
For many in Chattanooga, especially Black and Latinx residents, the broad economic development and growth in our community has not led to an improved opportunity or prosperity. At the Benwood Foundation we believe that the next decade in Chattanooga must be driven by a more inclusive approach to growth and development.

Supporting a high quality and equitable education system – from cradle to career –that helps ensure all children are physically and emotionally healthy, socially and civically connected, and academically and vocationally productive.

Creating inclusive pathways to high-wage careers and wealth-building opportunities, while removing systemic barriers that stand in the way of prosperity for all.

Building and supporting an ecosystem of community engagement comprised of diverse residents and leaders at all levels who have the power and agency to actively participate in charting their future.

Strengthening, supporting, and celebrating cultural amenities and offerings that contribute to a sense of place and belonging for all residents.
