Benjamin P. Duke Memorial Endowment Grant Program
Established: In honor of Benjamin "Phil" Duke (1923-2010)
Geographic Scope: South Eddy County, New Mexico (includes Carlsbad, Loving, Otis, Malaga, and Queen)
Mission: To promote the well-being of animals, domestic and wild, in South Eddy County.
Purpose
Funds awarded must promote the well-being of animals, domestic or wild. No other purposes will be considered.- Grant awards have typically ranged from $500 to $15,000
- The number of grant awards and amounts awarded may vary depending on the number of applications and needs
- All requests should be thoroughly justified in the grant application for consideration

- 501(c)(3) and other charitable organizations that are located in or serve South Eddy County, New Mexico

- Follow-up report is REQUIRED after funds are used, but no later than April 30, 2027 (unless otherwise approved in writing by the Foundation)
- Documentation must be provided to demonstrate appropriate use of charitable dollars for the purposes requested
- Failure to file follow-up report: Requires return of full grant amount to the Foundation; recipients may be subject to civil or criminal penalties

How to Apply
Application Format:
Required Agreement:
Applicants must agree to the following Terms and Conditions before proceeding:
1. The organization's application is to benefit animals, domestic or wild, in South Eddy County, New Mexico
2. Grants awarded are RESTRICTED funds that must be used for the charitable purposes outlined in the grant application, subject to any additional restrictions at the time of award
3. An online follow-up report is REQUIRED of recipients after the funds are used, but no later than April 30, 2027 (unless otherwise approved in writing by the Foundation)
4. Failure to submit required follow-up report means funds must be returned in full to the Foundation; recipients may also be subject to civil or criminal penalties

- Organization name (must be located in or serve South Eddy County: Carlsbad, Loving, Otis, Malaga, or Queen)
- Description of how organization accomplishes animal welfare (1-2 sentences, max 100 words)
- IRS 501(c)(3) status and Federal Tax ID Number
- If not 501(c)(3): description of organization and affiliated entities (max 100 words)
- Organization mailing address (street, city, state, zip)
- Website/URL

- Both applicant and co-applicant required from the organization
Grant Applicants Section
- Purpose of grant request (one sentence only)
- Total cost of project/program
- Grant amount requested (anticipated range: $500-$15,000)
- How organization plans to fund the difference between total project cost and grant amount requested
- Major spending categories/line items with amounts (total should match grant amount requested)
- Detailed description of grant request and how it will benefit animal well-being in the community (max 300 words)
