Beacon Scholar Program

Program Name: Beacon School of Nursing at Ivy Tech Elkhart-South Bend

Overview: Beacon and Ivy Tech have partnered to create the Beacon Scholar Program to address the critical nursing shortage in the community. The program provides comprehensive financial support to nursing students in Ivy Tech's Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Program and guarantees employment upon graduation.

  • Eligibility:

  • Students enrolled in Ivy Tech's Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Program at South Bend/Elkhart campus

  • Automatic eligibility for all ASN program students (no separate application required)

  • Must not be ineligible for rehire at Beacon

  • Do not need to be current Beacon associates to participate

  • LPNs accepted into LPN to ASN transition program are also eligible
  • Award Details:

  • Full Tuition Coverage: All remaining tuition, books, and school fees on "last-dollar-in" basis (after other financial aid applied)

  • Semesterly Stipend: Varies by semester

  • - Year 1: $500/semester
    - Year 2: $500/semester
    - Year 3: $750/semester
    - Year 4 (LPN to ASN): $750/semester
  • Additional Support:

  • - $250 of 4th semester stipend for NCLEX exam fee
    - Kaplan review course ($500 value) included
    - Tutoring available
    - NCLEX review
    - Academic advising
    - Student wraparound services

    Post-Graduation Commitment:

  • Guaranteed full-time bedside RN position upon graduation

  • 3-year post-graduation employment agreement required

  • Placement based on system need and individual preference

  • Must obtain BSN or specialty certification within 5 years of employment

    Application Process

    Enrollment Steps:

    1. Apply to Ivy Tech: Complete general application for admittance to Ivy Tech Community College
    - Visit Ivy Tech's application portal
    - Link: https://www.ivytech.edu/admissions/

    2. Complete Prerequisite Courses: Typically two semesters of prerequisites required for ASN program
    - Work with Ivy Tech counselors on your specific academic situation
    - Beacon Scholar Program does not cover prerequisite costs

    3. Apply to ASN Program: Once prerequisites are completed, apply to Ivy Tech's Associate of Science in Nursing Program
    - Application deadlines and information: Available on Ivy Tech's ASN program landing page

    4. Automatic Eligibility: Upon enrollment in the ASN program, students are automatically eligible to become Beacon Scholars
    - No separate application required for the Beacon Scholar Program itself

    Transfer Students:

  • Transfer from other institutions is possible but dependent on individual circumstances

  • Contact an Ivy Tech counselor to discuss transfer options

  • Resources:

    Financial Aid:

  • Complete the FAFSA

  • Make best efforts to secure other available funding

  • Beacon Scholarship applies on "last-dollar-in" basis to fill gaps
  • Agreement:

  • Sign an agreement with Beacon Health System regarding scholarship, stipend, clinicals, and employment

  • Any changes must be discussed with Beacon

  • If you do not complete the ASN program, financial support provided must be repaid to Beacon (exceptions may be considered on individual basis)
