About The American Association of Avian Pathologists is an international association whose mission is to promote scientific knowledge to enhance the health, well–being, and productivity of poultry to provide safe and abundant food for the world. Established in 1957, it is open to anyone who is engaged in some phase of avian diseases. Each year AAAP conducts a scientific program and symposium where the latest findings and issues regarding diseases in poultry are shared and discussed. AAAP also publishes Avian Diseases, a quarterly, international journal for original basic or clinical research from various disciplines including microbiology, immunology and pathology. In addition, AAAP publishes many educational materials on avian health including Diseases of Poultry and the Avian Disease Manual. AAAP committees and interest groups offer members a forum for discussion and action on specific poultry topics and issues. Through the AAAP Foundation, scholarships and awards are given each year to support those who are striving for careers in poultry medicine and acknowledge outstanding achievement in the area of poultry medicine. Bayer-Snoeyenbos New Investigator Award Introduction The Bayer-Snoeyenbos New Investigator Award is given to a member or associate member of AAAP whose career as an independent investigator in poultry medicine began less than seven years ago and who during this time has made meritorious research contributions to the avian field. The spirit of the award is to recognize new and upcoming investigators. The award shall be in the amount of $1,000.00. The New Investigator Award was renamed in 1994 in memory of Dr. Glenn Snoeyenbos, because of his excellent contributions to the AAAP and avian medicine. Dr. Snoeyenbos died in 1993. The award was re-named a second time in 1996 in recognition of the $32,000 donation that the Bayer Poultry Business Unit made in support of the award.Eligibility

Qualification Criteria:Nominations for the Bayer-Snoeyenbos New Investigator Award will be accepted from any member of the AAAP. The nominee must be a AAAP member or associate member whose career as an independent investigator in poultry medicine began less than seven years ago and who during this time has made meritorious research contributions to the avian field. This award will be given for special accomplishment in a particular area of investigation or for overall accomplishments during the specified time. The date from which the individual starts his/her career as an independent researcher (not to include time as a postdoctoral researcher) to the date the award nomination package is submitted to AAAP may not exceed 7 years. This seven-year period begins when the individual starts his/her career as an independent researcher (not to include time as a post-doctoral associate) and only research conducted during this time period will be evaluated by the Awards Committee.
