Background
The Basil L. King Scholarship Foundation was established in 1978, and grew out of the Fort Pierce Memorial Hospital Association, Inc., that owned and operated the Fort Pierce Memorial Hospital. Funds from the sale of the hospital were endowed by the Foundation with the sole designation to meet the exhibited financial needs of St. Lucie County residents seeking education leading to careers in health care and related fields.
On March 7, 2002, the Foundation changed its name to the Basil L. King Scholarship Foundation, Inc. in honor of the Fort Pierce Memorial Hospital's administrator Basil L. King who was instrumental in establishing the trust and in served as the Executive Director until his passing.
Applications for the Basil L. King Foundation Scholarship are accepted each spring. Award are made in the summer for use in the next academic year.
The Basil L. King Scholarships Foundation provides scholarship assistance to residents of St. Lucie County pursuing a career in the Health Sciences.
