Barney L. Knight Texas CPM Scholarship

Award Amount: $4,865 annual tuition scholarship

Geographic Scope: Texas

Eligibility:

  • Must be a member of the Texas City Management Association

  • Must be a public sector employee in Texas

  • Must be enrolled in or accepted to the Texas CPM Program
  • Program Details:

  • Provides full tuition scholarship to the Texas Certified Public Manager (CPM) Program

  • Sponsored by the William P. Hobby Center For Public Service at Texas State University-San Marcos

  • Program consists of approximately 21 days of courses covering finance, personnel, management information systems (MIS), and other topics

  • Classes offered periodically at Texas State University-San Marcos and various locations throughout Texas

  • Requires commitment of 1 to 1.5 days per month for 14 to 21 months total

  • Successful graduates earn the national designation of Certified Public Manager

  • Eligible for college credit from Texas State University-San Marcos
  • What is Covered:

  • Tuition, fees, and materials

  • Does NOT include travel or lodging expenses

  • Tuition grant is active for maximum of five years and only while recipient is a public sector employee in Texas

  • Friend to TCMA and graduate of Southwest Texas State University

  • Served as city manager of Temple and deputy city manager of Austin

  • City attorney and currently an attorney in private practice in Austin

  • Holds B.A. and law degrees from The University of Texas

  • Holds master's degree from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University)

    5. TCMA Membership Committee reviews applications and makes recommendation to TCMA Board
    6. Scholarship award announcement made in spring

    Note: Participants are encouraged to complete courses as quickly as possible.
