Band Scholarships

Overview:
McLennan Community College Music Scholarships are available to all qualified students regardless of major. Awards are based on merit and the needs of various McLennan performing ensembles. Award amounts are generous, varying from one-third to full tuition and fee reimbursement. This percentage is based on the published tuition and fee rate for an in-county resident registering for 12 semester hours and does not include books and other special fees.

Scholarship Requirements

Students who receive scholarships must agree to: 1. Participate in the assigned ensemble(s) 2. Register as a full-time student (minimum 12 semester hours) 3. Maintain a 4.0 GPA in music ensemble and an overall GPA of 2.5 in all classes 4. Register for studio lessons on major instrument

Duration

• Generally awarded for four semesters, provided scholarship requirements are fulfilled
• Some students continue to receive music awards while enrolled in coursework through the University Center

Audition Requirements and Process

#### Winds and Piano

Perform a chromatic scale

Perform two contrasting selections:

- One fast and technical piece (3-4 minutes)
- One slow and lyrical piece (3-4 minutes)

Sightreading required

#### Percussion

Perform one selection on snare (3-4 minutes)

Perform one selection on either mallets or timpani (3-4 minutes)

Sightreading required

Notification: Scholarship Committee will notify auditioners within three weeks of audition

Spring Auditions: Music Faculty Award Competition auditions held during spring semester
