Baltimore Philanthropy Tank Competition

Geographic Scope: Baltimore, Maryland

Overview:
An expansion of the Palm Beach Philanthropy Tank model to Baltimore. The competition invites students to present creative solutions to social issues impacting the Baltimore community. Winners pitch their solutions to a panel of philanthropist-investors.

Target Audience:

• Students in grades 7-12
• Must live in or attend school in Baltimore area
• Individual students or teams (maximum 4 students per team)

Award Structure:

• Up to $15,000 in program funding per winner
• One year of one-to-one mentoring from awarding philanthropists

Focus Areas:

• Social service initiatives
• Community-betterment projects
• Solutions to address Baltimore community needs

Program Format:

• Annual competition with application period and live finals event
• Shark Tank-style pitch presentation
• Evaluation criteria include community impact, program feasibility, solution creativity, sustainability, and team strengths

Application Process

1. Submit Online Application
   • Open during designated application period
   • One application per team (maximum 4 students)

2. Required Materials
   • Completed application form
   • Media releases for each applicant/team member
   • Comprehensive proposal including budget, goals, and project details
3. Finalist Selection & Preparation
   • Selected finalists participate in workshops
   • Work with philanthropist-investors and advisors
   • Prepare 3-minute pitch and responses to judge questions
4. Live Pitch Event
   • Present to panel of philanthropist-investors
   • Shark Tank-style competition format
   • Answer follow-up questions
5. Award & Mentorship
   • Winners announced
   • Funding awarded (up to $15,000)
   • One year of one-to-one mentoring from philanthropist-investors
