Balanced Man Scholarships

A scholarship program administered by individual SigEp chapters to recognize and reward undergraduate members who exemplify the Balanced Man Program principles.

• Undergraduate members of SigEp chapters
• Recipients of awards ceremony recognition

Program Structure:

• Each chapter determines scholarship amounts and number of awards
• Awards ceremonies typically held in summer or fall
• Involves recruitment outreach to incoming students, parents, and high school guidance counselors

Background: Part of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity's commitment to developing well-rounded members across intellectual, physical, social, and spiritual dimensions.

Application Process

1. Chair Selection:
   • Select a qualified Balanced Man Scholarship (BMS) chairman
   • Should be organized, dependable, and capable of delegating responsibility
   • Vice president of recruitment should not serve as BMS chairman
2. Preparation and Planning:
   • Research what has and hasn't worked for the chapter in the past
   • Review best practices from chapters around the country
   • Create a detailed project plan and timeline
3. Key Planning Elements:
   • Determine awards ceremony date and location
   • Set timeline for mailing/emailing applicants
   • Schedule interview dates and determine interview conductors
   • Establish budget for scholarships and ceremony
   • Select interview committee members
4. Outreach Activities:
   • Write letters to incoming students, parents, and high school guidance counselors
   • Build mailing lists for high schools sending students to your institution
   • Create promotional materials
5. Documentation:
   • Use BMS guide and project plan template
   • Document challenge overviews
   • Record lessons learned for successor
   • Maintain organized records throughout process
6. Timeline Recommendations:
   • Begin planning during winter break for summer/fall scholarships
   • Allow 2015 for execution year
   • Complete advanced planning before semester begins
