Overview

AVF-BSCI Translational Research Grant

Award Amount: $85,000 over two years

Focus Areas:
Original translational research project in venous disease addressing one or more of the following:

  • Nonthrombotic venous obstruction

  • Venous thromboembolism

  • Superficial venous insufficiency
  • Required Research Components:

  • Human subject requirement: Patient-oriented research involving human subjects or with tissue of human origin

  • Address delivery of appropriate care to appropriate patients and/or translate new clinical data into clinical decision making
    • Eligibility

    • Residents and fellows in a training program
    • Physicians who have completed their training within the past 10 years
    • Applicants who have not previously received this award
    • The 2024 AVF-BSCI Translational Research Grant accepts submissions from International as well as US-based researchers
    • Either the applicant or their mentor must be an AVF Member at the time of submission
    • Awardee is expected to join the AVF and maintain membership for the duration of the grant period

      What the Grant Funds

    • Direct research-related costs
    • Travel expenses to attend the annual AVF meeting to accept the award and provide annual progress reports
    • Does NOT pay for indirect costs to the researcher's university or facility
    • Boston Scientific (BSCI) will separately reimburse expenses for mandatory visit to Boston Scientific's corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility during first 12 months

      Requirements

    • Awardee must attend the AVF Annual Meeting to receive the award
    • Awardee must attend subsequent two Annual Meetings to provide Year 1 preliminary report and Year 2 final report (mandatory)
    • Progress update and budget report required every 6 months
    • Awardee agrees to visit Boston Scientific's corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility during first 12 months of grant award (mandatory requirement; expenses reimbursed separately by BSCI)
    • Attestation that applicant is not excluded by Office of the Inspector General from participation in Medicare, Medicaid, or other Federal health care programs
    • Institution must provide signed W-9 prior to initial disbursement
    • All residents and fellows must include letter from Program Director confirming two-year commitment
    • No-cost extension permitted on case-by-case basis with written request and approval

    Required Submission Materials

    Applicants must submit the following in PDF format via the online submission process:

    2. A completed Application (Word format)
    3. The applicant's curriculum vitae
    4. The mentor's curriculum vitae
    5. A letter of support from the sponsor (mentor) of the project including verification of resources available to support the project
    6. If neither the applicant nor their mentor is an AVF member, the applicant must submit an application for membership prior to submitting their grant application

      Funding Requests After Award

    • Formal letter of request for funding
    • Itemized invoice correlating to the originally submitted budget
    • Update on the status of the research project
    • Research Committee will review these requests prior to approving disbursement
