Austin Public Scholarships

Funder: Austin Film Society - Austin Public division

Geographic Scope: Austin, Texas area

Purpose: Provide fee reductions and waivers for producer certification, classes, and equipment access to individuals regardless of financial situation

Objectives:

Support freedom of speech and expression

Provide training and resource access to those facing financial hardship

Encourage individuals from underrepresented communities to become active producers

Support current/ongoing producers experiencing financial changes

Expand local producer base creating content for Austin Public channels

Support students seeking training or resources

Eligibility:

Must be 18 years or older

Must demonstrate financial need

Open to new and former producers

Financial Thresholds:

80% support: Individuals making 50-80% of AMFI (Area Median Family Income)

100% support: Individuals making less than 50% of AMFI

Scholarship Benefits Include:

Free or sliding scale access to producer certification

Free or sliding scale producer annual fees

Free or sliding scale intro camera, audio, lighting, and studio classes for 1 year

Request access to intermediate classes and special workshops (case-by-case approval)

One scholarship spot per class (first come, first serve)

Scholarship Requirements:

Duration: One year from date of approval; must reapply to continue

Must become certified producer (if not already) within first 6 months

Must attend orientation class before approval

Must provide content for distribution to Austin Public throughout scholarship year

Must abide by all Austin Public Producer policies and conduct standards

Termination Conditions:

Failure to achieve producer certification within 6 months

Two no-shows for registered classes

Violation of Austin Public Producer policies

Application Process: Year-round rolling admissions. Applications reviewed in order received. All applicants notified via email.

Documentation Required: Proof of financial hardship

Note: Award is on basis of availability and financial need. Completing application does not guarantee approval.
