ASHG Leadership Award Grant

The ASHG Leadership Award recognizes individuals who have significantly influenced the field of human genetics through their professional achievements. Established by the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG), this award highlights leadership and vision essential for the advancement of genetics in science and health. Award recipients, selected annually by the ASHG Board, receive a $10,000 monetary award and a plaque at the Society's Annual Meeting, along with the publication of their presentation in The American Journal of Human Genetics.

About ASHG
The American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) is the world’s largest professional community driving the field of human genetics and genomics research and translation, with decades of leadership supporting new discovery and applications. The ASHG meeting, first held in 1948, has grown to become the world’s largest annual meeting in human genetics and genomics with attendance of 8,000 or more each year. Soon after, the Society published the first edition of The American Journal of Human Genetics, which launched in 1949.
This prestigious award is presented on behalf of the Society to an individual whose professional achievements have fostered and enriched the development of various human genetics disciplines. Potential recipients should exemplify the enduring leadership and vision required to ensure that the field of human genetics will flourish and successfully assimilate into the broader context of science, medicine, and health. They also may have made major contributions to awareness or understanding of human genetics by policy makers or by the general public. Annually, members of the ASHG Board of Directors nominate and select this award recipient, who is notified in late summer prior to announcement. The awardee will receive a plaque and a monetary award of $10,000 at the Society’s Annual Meeting and it is customary to publish a manuscript of the presentation in The American Journal of Human Genetics. Formerly known as the Victor A. McKusick Leadership Award.
