Established in 2015, the ASH Giuseppe Bigi Memorial Award recognizes an Italian trainee (undergraduate, medical, or graduate student, resident physician, or post-doctoral fellow) based at an Italian institution who is the first or senior author and presenter and who has the highest-scoring abstract submitted to the ASH annual meeting in the field of hematopoiesis and stem cells. In the absence of suitable candidates in this field, the award will go to abstracts submitted in related categories of hematopoiesis, followed by abstracts submitted by those covering research in the field of immunology. The recipient shall receive a $4,000 award. Awardees also receive a $1,000 travel allowance for travel to the annual meeting* and complimentary registration to the current year’s ASH annual meeting. Travel reimbursement is contingent on presenting in person at the annual meeting and is not applicable for virtual presentations. ASH Giuseppe Bigi Abstract Achievement Award The ASH Giuseppe Bigi Abstract Achievement Award recognizes a meritorious Italian trainee (undergraduate, medical, or graduate student, resident physician, or post-doctoral fellow) based at an Italian institution who is the first or senior author and presenter and who has the next highest-scoring eligible abstract submitted to the ASH annual meeting without regarding to scientific category. The recipient of this merit based award receives a $500 award. Award Support These annual awards are made possible by a grant from the Giuseppe Bigi Association, named for the late Giuseppe Bigi, MD, a well-known Italian scientist. Dr. Bigi served as associate professor of Clinical Immunology at the University of Milan from 1985 until his death in 2002 and was one of the first researchers to predict the presence of stem cells in the peripheral blood. Support for the 2015 award was also provided by the IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico Foundation.Eligibility
