Background The American Sociological Association, founded in 1905, is the national professional membership association for sociologists and others who are interested in sociology. ASA members include students, faculty working in a full range of institutions, and people working in government agencies and nonprofit and private sector organizations. Mission ASA’s mission is to serve sociologists in their work, advance sociology as a science and profession, and promote the contributions and use of sociology to society. ASA Student Forum Travel Awards Funds are available to defray the costs associated with attending the ASA Annual Meeting. Awards may go to ASA Student members only. Selection criteria is weighted by level of participation in the Annual Meeting, student financial need, availability of other forms of support, distance traveled, and potential benefit to the student. Up to 45 awards are given, consisting of $250, plus a waiver of registration fees. These awards are granted as a form of reimbursment on-site or after the Annual Meeting and are not dispersed in advancement of attendance.
