ASA Carla B. Howery Teaching Enhancement Fund Grants

The ASA Carla B. Howery Teaching Enhancement Fund Grants support projects that enhance the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) in sociology. The grants, up to $2,500, are intended for innovative proposals that improve teaching and learning, ensuring lasting systemic impact. While ASA membership is not required for application, grant recipients must be members before final awards. This initiative by the American Sociological Association reflects a commitment to advancing sociology as a discipline.

Background
ASA members include students, faculty working in a full range of institutions, and people working in government agencies and nonprofit and private sector organizations.
Project Criteria
Principal criteria for the award are:
the project advances the teaching and learning of sociology, serves as a seed project that will continue to have an impact over time, and will be systemic in its impact.
The criteria are intentionally flexible in order to accommodate innovative proposals.
Award
Howery teaching grants can support an individual, a program, a department, or a committee of a state/regional association. ASA may award multiple grants, each up to $2,500.

Eligibility

ASA membership is not a criterion for application or selection for this grant, however, recipients must be ASA members before the final award is made. ASA membership involves registration as an ASA member via the ASA website and acceptance of and adherence to the ASA Code of ethics. Applications from all sub-areas of the discipline are welcome. Funds can be used for a variety of purposes including, but not limited to: summer salary equipment software travel meetings transcription of interviews survey implementation
