Artist in Residence Program
Overview: The Reserve Lifestyle Fund sponsors an ongoing Artist-in-Residence program as part of their commitment to supporting the arts. The program provides artists with a residency opportunity at The Old Edwards Reserve at Lake Keowee, located in Sunset, SC in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Eligibility: Visual Arts, Literature, Music, Performing Arts, Architecture, Design, Dance. Artists are selected by committee review of proposals and portfolio of work.
Location: Highway 133 in Sunset, SC. The Reserve has over 700 property owners and can draw participation from the surrounding area.
Residency Details
Length of Residence: Up to 1 week
Number of Residencies Available: 1 per year
Resident Season: Flexible
Work Environment: Exhibition/installation space. Artist has access to various sites on the property to work or display work, with opportunity for interaction between artist and Reserve community members.
Lodging, Meals & Facilities
- Housing: Furnished private Guest House or private Guest House room (accommodations limited to maximum two people—artist and partner)
- Additional costs for children: Artist responsible for additional costs if children accompany
- Pets: No accommodations available
- Meals: Lunch and dinner provided daily (1-3 food venues typically open depending on season)
- Beverages: Foundation covers all non-alcoholic beverages only
- Facilities Access: Fitness center, pools, hiking, kayaking, tennis, and golf available
Financial Support
- Travel Reimbursement: Up to $500
- Weekly Stipend: $1,000 to cover other expenses
Artist Responsibilities
- Materials and equipment
- Additional food and beverage items (beyond Foundation coverage)
- Personal transportation
- Personal expenses
- Must acknowledge The Reserve Foundation in any publicity materials related to residency
Foundation Expectations & Opportunities
- Foundation will assist with transportation costs of supplies and work to be exhibited
- Artist must be available for at least two interactions/events with Reserve property owners and invited general public
- Expected to be open to creating a piece to be contributed to the Foundation (donated work must be received no later than one year after residency)
- Artist must be willing to invite community to experience artwork creation (may include studio visiting hours, lectures, workshops, or other forums artist is comfortable with)
