Program Focus: Swimming instruction and water safety

Overview

Scholarship support for aquatics programs that provide trusted, local access to pools and trained instructors. The program addresses inequitable access to swim instruction, particularly for children of color who are statistically far less likely to have received swim instruction.

What the Program Supports

Children at select Town Camp sites participate in:
• Swim lessons
• Water safety training (treading water)
• Building confidence in the pool

Goals

• Provide essential, life-saving swimming skills
• Open up a lifetime of recreation and health benefits
• Address disparities in swim instruction access
• Reduce drowning risk for children of color
• Give ALL kids the chance to develop swimming skills and feel confident and safe in water
