The Society for Ethnomusicology Mission The Society for Ethnomusicology was founded in 1955 to promote the research, study, and performance of music in all historical periods and cultural contexts. Applied Ethnomusicology Section Travel Awards Purpose The Applied Ethnomusicology Section travel assistance fund can assist with: Transportation between the applicant’s home base and the SEM conferenceTransportation for a specialist/consultant or artist to participate in a panel, forum roundtable, or workshop at the annual conferenceGround transportation while at the conferenceLodging while attending or per diem while attending the conferenceOther travel related costs considered on a case-by-case basis Prize A cash prize of up to $500.

An invited guest is an eminent scholar or practitioner who does not normally attend SEM but who has been invited to participate in in applied ethnomusicology event at the conference.To apply for an award you must be a current member of the SEM Applied Ethnomusicology Section. (SEM members may join the Section at any time.) Section members may apply on behalf of themselves or an invited guest. An invited guest is an eminent scholar or practitioner who does not normally attend SEM but who has been invited to participate in in applied ethnomusicology event at the conference. You must be a member of this organization to apply for this award - become a member. To apply for an award you must be a current member of the SEM Applied Ethnomusicology Section. SEM members may join the Section at any time.
