Geographic Scope: Alabama

Overview: Up to eight $1,500 internships awarded each year to support student interns working at Alabama newspapers.

Newspapers:

Must be a newspaper in good standing with the Alabama Press Association

Must pay matching portion of payroll taxes

Must reimburse intern for business travel and other business expenses

Must pay interns at least minimum wage for hours worked

Expected to let interns write stories, cover meetings, and take photos as newsroom staff members would

Must share at least one story (more encouraged) of statewide interest on the APA content sharing site

Students:

Open to junior or senior undergraduate students

Open to students enrolled in a graduate program

No GPA requirement specified

One of eight interns dedicated to developing content on topics of statewide interest for APA content sharing site
This multi-media intern position supervised by APA staff with assistance from journalism schools and/or retired journalism professionals
Students required to submit summary of work experience to be distributed to board and possibly published in AlaPressa
