The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), under the auspices of its Research Committee, and in coordination with and support from JRF Ortho, is offering one grant of up to $50,000 to support a basic science or clinical research project to advance insight into meniscal or osteochondral allografts. Objective Applications must describe a basic science or a clinical research project surrounding viable Osteochondral Allograft (OCA) transplantation or meniscus allograft transplantation of the knee. Criteria and metrics utilized in the study must be determined by best scientific evidence or best demonstrated practices and designed to improve the understanding of, and research evidence regarding, OCA or meniscus allograft transplantation. Proposals with translational or advancement of clinical care will be reviewed favorably. Projects designed to address the clinical challenges of OCA or meniscus transplantationProjects resulting in improving OCA or meniscus availability through better allograft size matching, improved aseptic processing methods, increased graft quality or graft testing or screening methods Projects analyzing the cost effectiveness of OCAs or meniscus transplantation to the healthcare system or our treatment optionsProjects utilizing contemporary technologies to enhance properties of OCA and meniscus allograft transplantsBiological adjuncts to enhance allograft incorporationObjective assessment of allograft biology and the effect on articular cartilage biochemistrySimplification of surgical techniques and biomechanical validation of meniscal transplantation or OCA transplantation Funding This program provides a one-time award of $50,000 to be disbursed over a 12 to 24-month period. The start date of the funded project will be no earlier than January and should be completed in an 18 to 24-month period. No-cost extensions may be requested. Non-transplantable allograft tissue required for the study will be made available by JRF Ortho at no cost.Eligibility
