Overview

Anti-Racism RFP

Funder: Better Health Together (BHT)

Status: RFP posted July 31, 2020

Geographic Scope: Washington State (Spokane region)

Amount: $1,000,000 from Community Resiliency Fund

Background:
BHT acknowledges systemic racism and white-supremacy culture in policies and governance. The organization adopted a formal policy recognizing racism as a public health crisis and deepening commitment to equity and anti-racist work.

Goals:

  • Fund proposals that address and/or prevent impacts of systemic racism

  • Strengthen organizations led by and serving communities impacted by systems of oppression

  • Prioritize opportunities to fund organizations led by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color
  • What Proposals Should Address:
Proposals should demonstrate how awarded funding would help address impacts of racism within the population served. Funding can support new or existing programs or ideas. Communities are trusted to know what works best.

    Eligible Communities:
BHT uses the term "impacted communities" broadly to refer to groups impacted by systems of oppression, including:

  • Black, Indigenous, and People of Color

  • LGBTQA2S+

  • People with disabilities

  • Justice-involved individuals

  • Low-income communities

  • Undocumented and refugee/immigrant people

  • Other groups experiencing inequity
  • Important Note on Racial Justice:
While white people may experience some forms of oppression (e.g., disability discrimination), this is distinct from racism. White people do not experience racialized discrimination, though they should engage in anti-racist work.
