Annual Feline Proposals: Feline Health First Award Grant

The Morris Animal Foundation is dedicated to improving the health of animals through scientific research and funding. With a focus on domesticated cats, the Feline Health First Award supports innovative research that addresses the welfare of both community and pet cats. Grants are available for projects lasting up to 24 months, with a maximum budget of $120,000. This initiative encourages collaborations that translate research findings into practical applications for veterinarians and cat caretakers.

Founded in 1948 and headquartered in Denver, it is one of the largest nonprofit animal health research organizations in the world, funding nearly $170 million in 3,100+ critical animal health studies to date across a broad range of species.

First Award grants are designed to assist new faculty in establishing a successful research program.
Program Summary
To achieve this mission, we fund hypothesis-driven, humane research projects with high scientific merit and the potential for significant impact. We are a nonprofit organization that is funded by public support from individuals, corporations, clubs and foundations, and earnings from our endowed funds. Our donors are interested in funding research that results in impactful animal health achievements and benefits both scientific and non-scientific stakeholders including veterinarians, feline caretakers and communities.
Proposal Request Objectives
Proposals should advance the health and overall welfare of domesticated cats including community and pet cats (Felis catus). Projects involving other feline species are not included in this call.
Academic and industry collaborative projects are encouraged to accelerate the translation of results into practice.
Award Duration And Budget Limits
First Award maximum project duration is 24 months and the total budget cannot exceed $120,000.
