Ann and Abe Effron Donor Advised Fund Grants

Geographic Scope: Dutchess County, New York

Funding Focus: Arts, culture and education with special consideration given to grants that would improve access to facilities and events for young people and senior citizens

Eligibility:

  • Tax-exempt organizations located in Dutchess County, New York

  • Tax-exempt organizations providing services to residents of Dutchess County, New York (must be able to clearly document the number of residents in Dutchess County being served)
  • What Will NOT Be Funded:

  • Individuals

  • Debt reduction

  • Underwriting of special events (fundraising events)

  • Equipment, unless expressly tied to program support

  • Fundraising campaigns, such as endowment, capital or annual campaigns

  • Projects related to partisan politics or elections

  • Schools; however, grants may be made to support student/teacher community service programs targeted to assist community needs or for professional development opportunities at schools targeting disadvantaged populations

  • Religious organizations; however, grants may be made to support non-religious programs provided through these institutions

  • Expenses incurred prior to the expected announcement dates of the grant awards
  • Award Amount:

  • Grants made through this program will not exceed $3,000

  • Average grant award is $1,500
  • Deadline: Applications must be submitted by October 15th. Awards will be announced in December.

    Timeline to Spend Funds: All funds granted must be spent within the year from fund date.

  • Review Criteria:

  • Quality of Program/Project: Clear description of program/project, realistic implementation plan with specific activities and timeline

  • Capacity and Stability of the Organization: Ability to carry out proposed work, previous experience, functional and financial stability

  • Budget and Additional Support: Clear and realistic budget, plan for future funding, evidence of support from other funders or in-kind support

  • Impact/Results: How the program will make a difference to target population and broader community, significance of program, finite or broad impact, one-time or long-term benefit, change-oriented approach addressing root causes

  • Reaction & Perceptions: Sense of excitement about program, importance/timeliness of issue, ripple effect of funding or not funding
  • Review Process: All applications rated by Ann and Abe Effron Committee of the Community Foundations. All recommendations reviewed, approved or declined by Board of Trustees.
