Amgen Scholars Program at NIH

A program providing hands-on laboratory experience to undergraduate students from across the United States. The program aims to break down barriers for students who would not otherwise have the opportunity to engage in science at top educational and research institutions.

Program Details:

• Award Recipients: Up to 15 undergraduates per year receive financial support and hands-on summer research opportunities
• Location: NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland
• Components:
  • Research project with NIH faculty mentorship
  • Seminars and networking events
  • Symposium where scholars meet peers and learn from leading scientists in industry and academia
  • Financial support for eligible students regardless of financial status

Eligibility: Undergraduate students from across the United States

Track Record: Of 49 alumni who completed undergraduate studies, nearly 22 are pursuing advanced graduate degrees in scientific fields. 10 alumni are employed in scientific fields.

Funding Partner: Amgen Foundation

Background: The program was renewed in 2018 for another four years with a grant from the Amgen Foundation to FNIH.
