Amgen Scholars Program at NIH

Overview: A program providing hands-on laboratory experience to undergraduate students from across the United States. The program aims to break down barriers for students who would not otherwise have the opportunity to engage in science at top educational and research institutions.

  • Award Recipients: Up to 15 undergraduates per year receive financial support and hands-on summer research opportunities

    - Symposium where scholars meet peers and learn from leading scientists in industry and academia
    - Financial support for eligible students regardless of financial status

    Eligibility: Undergraduate students from across the United States

    Track Record: Since 2015, the program has provided 79 scholars with research opportunities representing 69 colleges and universities. Of 49 alumni who completed undergraduate studies, nearly 22 are pursuing advanced graduate degrees in scientific fields. 10 alumni are employed in scientific fields.

    Background: The program was renewed in 2018 for another four years with a grant from the Amgen Foundation to FNIH.
