Status: ACTIVE

Summary

The AmeriCorps State and National Rhode Island Grants, offered by ServeRI, empower organizations to tackle community needs by recruiting and training AmeriCorps members. These grants aim to enhance civic engagement and support pathways for participants to advance their careers or education. Successful proposals must demonstrate how AmeriCorps service positions address specific community challenges while providing meaningful benefits to the members. This initiative fosters collaboration among nonprofits, schools, and government agencies to improve lives and strengthen communities across Rhode Island.

Overview

Background Organizations identify their community need, then design and implement an AmeriCorps program that will leverage people power as a solution. They recruit, train, and manage individuals, called AmeriCorps members, to deliver those services. Successful proposals describe how AmeriCorps service positions are an appropriate strategy to meet a community need AND identify supports for AmeriCorps participants to develop their career or continue their education. State and National Formula Grants ServeRI invites nonprofit organizations, institutions of higher education, school districts, units of government, and Indian Tribes to apply for AmeriCorps State “Formula” Grants. Successful proposals will describe how AmeriCorps service positions are an appropriate strategy to meet a community need AND will provide a service-to-career or to-education pathway for the AmeriCorps participants. AmeriCorps improves lives, strengthens communities, and fosters civic engagement through service and volunteering. The primary purpose of the funding is to plan and develop new opportunities for individuals, called AmeriCorps members, to perform community service at Rhode Island nonprofit organizations, schools, or government agencies. Members may receive a living allowance and other benefits while serving. Upon successful completion of their service, members earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award that they can use to pay for higher education expenses or apply to qualified student loans. AmeriCorps activities should bring people together to solve community challenges and support AmeriCorps members with pathways to employment and post-secondary education.
