Mission Alignment & Focus Areas

Care New England supports local nonprofit organizations addressing:

• Social Drivers of Health: Access to adequate housing, transportation, employment, workforce development, nutritious food, and safe communities
• Behavioral Health: Prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions and substance use disorders
• Chronic Disease Management: Strategies to help individuals manage long-term health conditions (diabetes, hypertension, heart disease)
• Maternal and Child Health: Comprehensive care, education, and support for pregnant women, infants, and children
• Equitable Access to Healthcare: Initiatives to improve patient access, health literacy, navigation, and address physical, mental, and social dimensions of healthcare

Eligibility

Eligible Applicants:

Rhode Island-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations

501(c)(4) social welfare organizations

501(c)(6) business leagues

Community-based organizations with physical presence in Rhode Island, demonstrated track record, strong community credibility, and active programming within the state

Required Characteristics:

Deeply rooted in Rhode Island

Active community engagement and empowerment

Demonstrate accessibility and inclusivity

Exclusions

Care New England will NOT support:

Organizations that discriminate based on age, sex, race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, or disability

Third-party fundraising organizations

Religious organizations for sectarian purposes (community programs by religious organizations are considered)

Local, regional, club, or school-based sports teams

Individual elementary or secondary schools (public or private) unless requesting innovative programs specifically designed to address social determinants of health

Requests for individual financial support, political candidates, political campaigns, or non-nonprofit entities
