Geographic Scope: United States (Pennsylvania Department of American Legion)

Focus Areas: Educational support for eligible military families

Eligibility

• Child of a parent who lost their life while honorably serving on active military duty on or after 9/11, OR
• Child of a post-9/11 veteran with a combined Department of Veterans Affairs disability rating of 50% or higher
• Must be pursuing undergraduate study, graduate study, or trade school at an accredited institution of higher education

Award Details

• Needs-Based: Designed to fulfill a financial gap remaining after all federal and state educational grants/scholarships have been utilized
• Maximum Tuition Cap: $29,920.95 per academic year (2026-2027)
• Award Amounts:
  • Up to $20,000 for children of the fallen
  • Up to $5,000 for children of disabled veterans
• Duration: Recipients have one year to use the grant
• Reapplication: May reapply up to six times

2. Complete the online application form
3. Submit required documentation demonstrating military service and disability rating or death in service
4. Provide documentation of all federal and state educational grants/scholarships received

• VA disability rating documentation (if applicable)
• Proof of death in service (if applicable)
• List of other educational funding received
• Proof of enrollment at accredited institution
