  • Must be an Eagle Scout
  • Must be nominated through respective state American Legion department

    Award Details

  • Primary Award: $10,000 scholarship for American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year
  • Runner-Up Awards: Three scholarships of $2,500 each
  • Award Timing: Recipients can receive scholarship immediately upon high school graduation
  • Usage Timeline: Must utilize total award within four (4) years of high school graduation (excluding active military duty or religious mission)
  • Graduation Types Eligible: Public, parochial, military, private, or home school
  • Recognition: Eagle Scout of the Year winner travels to Youth Champion Delegation honored at American Legion annual National Convention each August

1. Contact your local American Legion post or respective state American Legion department for nomination packet
2. Complete the Eagle Scout of the Year Nomination Form (available during annual nomination window: November 1 - March 1)
3. Submit nomination packet to your respective state American Legion department headquarters
4. State department Selection Committee reviews packets and selects the best Eagle Scout in the state
5. State department forwards selected packet and committee member list to American Legion National Headquarters

  • Eagle Scout credentials and documentation

  • Statement of qualifications

  • Community service records

  • Academic achievement information

  • Leadership experience documentation
  • Submission Deadlines:

  • State level: Must be received by March 1
