American Eagle Foundation Bald Eagle Grants

Overview: Competitive grants program that funds projects to conserve and protect Bald Eagles and other birds of prey.

Geographic Scope: Nationwide (United States)

Funding Source: Established in 2004 through proceeds from the Bald Eagle Commemorative Coin Act, when Congress unanimously passed legislation authorizing the U.S. Mint to create gold, silver, and clad coins. Sales from these coins generated $7.8 million in 2008. Congress designated 75% of these funds ($5.8 million) to perpetually grow in the American Eagle Fund to provide competitive annual grants for Bald Eagle projects.
