Overview

The AllSides Education Fund improves democratic society by increasing access to balanced news, media bias ratings, diverse perspectives, and real conversation. The fund strengthens society by providing education, experiences, and skill sets that reinvigorate democracy.

Background

AllSides Education Fund was founded in 2015 as a joint nonprofit initiative of AllSides (news literacy and media bias) and Living Room Conversations (fostering conversation and nurturing relationships across differences). It was created in response to the needs of educators and community leaders seeking to address decayed media literacy skills and atrophied abilities to communicate outside of filter bubbles in person and on social media.

Funding Purpose

Scholarships and funds to access AllSides School Memberships and Living Room Conversations topic guides and services to:
• Broaden knowledge and skill sets
• Better understand and appreciate each other, especially across differences
• Support greater access to educational services and products

Leadership Background

• John Gable (Co-founder, Advisory Board): Technology veteran, Lean Right bias, worked at Microsoft, Netscape, Check Point Software; co-founder of Kavi Corporation; worked in Republican politics for Senator Howard Baker, Presidential Candidate George H.W. Bush, and Senator Mitch McConnell
• Joan Blades (Co-founder, Advisory Board): Left bias, co-founded MoveOn.org, Berkeley Systems, MomsRising.org, and Living Room Conversations
• Alice Sheehan (Executive Director): Former public school administrator, Lean Left bias, worked with GE Aviation and as administrator at Alma del Mar Charter School through Education Pioneers fellowship

Multipartisan mission dedicated to bolstering media literacy skills and the ability to communicate effectively outside of in-person and digital filter bubbles.
