Overview

The AllSides Education Fund strengthens democratic society by providing education, experiences, and skill sets that reinvigorate democracy. The fund improves society by increasing access to balanced news, media bias ratings, diverse perspectives, and real conversation.

Background

Founded in 2015 as a joint nonprofit initiative of AllSides (news literacy and media bias) and Living Room Conversations (fostering conversation across differences). Created in response to needs of educators and community leaders addressing:
• Decayed media literacy skills in classrooms
• Atrophied abilities to communicate outside of filter bubbles (in-person and digital)

Leadership

John Gable (Co-founder, Advisory Board) - Technology veteran, former Microsoft/Netscape/Check Point Software employee, co-founder of Kavi Corporation, Republican politics background (worked for Senator Howard Baker, George H.W. Bush, Mitch McConnell). Bias: Lean Right.

Joan Blades (Co-founder, Advisory Board) - Political activist, co-founder of MoveOn.org, Berkeley Systems, MomsRising.org, and Living Room Conversations. Bias: Left.

Alice Sheehan (Executive Director) - Former public school administrator, leadership roles at GE Aviation, Education Pioneers fellowship, administrator at Alma del Mar Charter School and Colorado schools. Bias: Lean Left.
