Special funding awards requested by the Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology to support departmental programs, research infrastructure, and educational initiatives. A formal proposal is submitted to the Foundation and reviewed by its Board of Directors.

• Support for core laboratory facility shared by clinical faculty
• Funds research specialist/technician position
• Enables early-stage, high-risk/high-reward research projects
• Supports faculty members without dedicated NIH funding

Fellow Research Fund

• Supports mentored research by clinical fellows
• Encourages academic career path development
• Funds presentation of research at national conferences

Medical Student Education Fund

• Support for UCSF Bridges Curriculum development
• Medical Student Analyst position
• Student travel and conference fees
• Preparation of student papers and posters
• Academic mentoring
• Learning tools and equipment
• Didactic lecture series

Resident Education Fund

• Supports professional development of resident physicians
• Enables mentored research participation
• Funds paper writing and conference presentations
• Develops future leaders in academic and clinical ophthalmology

Faculty Scientific Meeting Participation

• Supports faculty attendance at scientific conferences
• Funds graduate student and postdoctoral fellow meeting participation
• Enables exchange of ideas with peers from diverse institutions
