Program Overview

The ALA Foundation Mission Endowment Fund is a permanent fund that holds principal in perpetuity and pays out investment earnings each year to support ALA programs. This model ensures sustainable, long-term funding for priority initiatives.

How the Fund Works

• Donors contribute to the endowment principal
• Principal is invested and grows over time
• Annual investment earnings (typically 5% or more) are distributed to ALA programs
• Principal remains invested indefinitely, continuing to generate earnings

Example: A $100 donation yields $5 annual earnings (at 5% return). The $5 supports ALA programs while the $100 principal continues to grow.

• ALA Girls Nation: Leadership program for aspiring young women providing firsthand experience in federal government operations, parliamentary procedure, Constitution, and legislative process
• National Veterans Creative Arts Festival: Co-presented with U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
