Air Quality Prevent Nonattainment Grants (WA)

The Air Quality Prevent Nonattainment Grants (WA) offer $2 million to support initiatives aimed at maintaining air quality standards. This funding is crucial for areas at risk of nonattainment due to high levels of criteria air pollutants. While most of Washington is currently in attainment, there are specific regions that require attention and action to develop comprehensive state implementation plans for air quality management.

We monitor air quality, especially for criteria air pollutants in areas at risk of nonattainment. Nonattainment is a technical term that means an area has too much of a specific air pollutant and does not meet national air quality standards. A nonattainment area must develop an air quality state implementation plan outlining how they will attain and maintain the air quality standards by reducing emissions from criteria air pollutants. Currently, almost all of Washington is in attainment, yet there are areas of concern.
