AES & REpowering Schools 2026 Seed Grant Program

Program Name: Empowering College Student Teams to Advance Stakeholder Engagement and Renewable Energy Policy

Purpose: Support college student teams in conducting meaningful research and projects related to stakeholder engagement and renewable energy policy

Geographic Scope: United States (accredited institutions)

    Focus Areas

    Suggested research topics include, but are not limited to:
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Strategies for involving community members, local governments, and other key parties in renewable energy projects
  • Solar Agrivoltaics/Dual-Use: Exploring the integration of solar energy systems with agricultural activities
  • Energy Justice: Ensuring equitable access to renewable energy resources and addressing disparities
  • Community Opposition & Sentiment: Investigating causes of community resistance and fostering positive relationships
  • Stakeholder Mapping: Analyzing different groups impacted by renewable energy projects
  • Advocacy for Government Support: Developing strategies to increase policy backing and public funding

    Eligibility

  • Applicants: College student teams and their faculty advisors from accredited institutions in the United States
  • Team Composition: Minimum 2 college students per team
  • Academic Background: Encouraged to include diverse disciplines (engineering, policy, environmental science, communications)
  • Faculty Advisor: Required to oversee and support the project

    Grant Criteria

  • Project Proposal: Must clearly outline research question, objectives, methodology, anticipated outcomes, and relevance to focus areas
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Proposals must describe how project will engage stakeholders
  • Community Impact: Preference for projects demonstrating potential for positive and lasting impact on local communities with plans for sharing findings
  • Feasibility: Project must be achievable within one semester with realistic timeline and budget
  • Reporting: Recipients required to submit final report summarizing outcomes, challenges, and recommendations
