Advancing Young Women in STEM (AYWiSTEM) Scholarship

Overview: NMOST's AYWiSTEM Scholarship supports young women in New Mexico pursuing STEM education and careers.

Geographic Scope: New Mexico

Focus Areas:

  • STEM education and career pathways for young women

  • Support for high school graduates entering college STEM programs

  • Recognition of academic achievement and leadership in STEM fields

    • Eligibility:

  • Young women in New Mexico

  • High school seniors/graduates

  • Demonstrable interest and achievement in STEM

  • Application requires responses to questions about:

    • - Personal leaders/mentors in STEM
    - Experiences feeling welcome and included in STEM activities

    Key Information:

  • Recipients are selected annually

  • Recent cohorts have included 12 scholarship recipients

  • Past recipients have pursued degrees in:

    • - Biomedical Engineering
    - Forensic Science
    - Materials Science (internships at Sandia National Laboratories)
