Important Update! Our Stewardship Grant has undergone an update to better integrate with other HCTF grant programs and is now called Action Grant. Action Grants Collaborating with individuals and communities to influence change to improve fish wildlife, and their habitats The focus of this grant is about supporting conservation actions that directly involve people and communities to change behaviours and/or practices leading to measurable conservation outcomes. Projects should work to create solutions, sustainable practices or mitigate human-caused impacts to prevent or reduce impacts to a species or ecosystems. These projects should have well defined deliverables to achieve outcomes within the two-year term for this grant. Goals of Grant Influencing change in behaviors and/or practices Implementing actions by collaborating with individuals, organizations or communities Sample projects: Restore riparian habitat in a commercially zoned area by working with commercial property owners adjacent to the riparian habitat to implement identified best management practices on their property to enhance riparian and fish habitat.Working with forestry companies on Western Vancouver Island to identify, protect and/or restore critical wetland habitat for Western Salamanders.Creating a winter crop cover incentive program in collaboration with local farmers to provide highquality feeding and resting habitat for resident and migratory birds. Working with several communities to promote bat-friendly practices on agricultural and forested lands to maintain roosts, habitats, and bat populations.Eligibility

Ineligible projects:Projects that only focus on the development or production of communication or marketing materials, general education publication, signs, electronic databases, websites, file systems, and/or collect data for maps.Single day events, conferences, workshops or programs.Production or sponsorship of commercial programs.Law enforcement activities.Captive breeding and rearing, feeding and or control of native wildlife species with the exception of activities that are part of population recovery projects. This includes fish rearing, farming, stocking, or hatchery projects and wildlife rescue or rehabilitation centers.Salaries for regular Provincial government employees (wages for Auxiliary employees dedicated to the proposed project are eligible).Marine or salmon-only projects that do not also benefit provincially managed fish species or their habitats.Training costs for staff or project personnel (e.g., costs associated with professional development training, attending conferences, software licenses, first aid courses, etc.).Focus Areas & Funding Uses
