Overview

The Object of the Analytical Chemistry Trust Fund is to promote, assist and extend the science and study of Analytical Chemistry and of all questions relating to the analysis, nature and composition of natural and manufactured materials for the benefit of the public. Analytical Chemistry Trust Fund: Developing World Scholarship Scheme The purpose of the Low-Middle Economy (LME) Scholarship scheme is to provide the opportunity for citizens of Low-Middle economy countries who are employed in their industrial, academic or public service sectors to visit a Host Institution in the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland to acquire new analytical science knowledge, or experience of analytical science teaching, learning or training methods, which would be applied on return to their Home Country. The emphasis would be very much on achieving a practical and beneficial impact in their Home Country, rather than on purely academic research. Project sponsorship for international scholars to travel to the United Kingdom to learn analytical skills, for up to 3 months, before returning to their home country to share what they have learned. The total value of the Scholarship will not normally exceed £5,000. It is presumed that the Scholar will continue to be paid their salary by their Home Country institution or organisation during the period of their Scholarship.

Eligibility of Applicant Applicants shall be citizens of a Developing World country as defined by World Bank economic criteria. See here.Applicants shall be employed in industry, academia or the public service in a Developing World country or be a registered postgraduate student at a university or college in a Developing World country.Applicants shall supply written confirmation of their employment in industry, academia or the public service in a Developing World country.Unless already a member, Scholars shall apply for Membership of the Royal Society of Chemistry and its Analytical Division within one month of the commencement of the Scholarship. Applicants shall hold a recognised under- or post-graduate qualification in analytical chemistry / science or a subject closely related to analytical chemistry / science, or shall demonstrate a long term interest and record of achievement in analytical chemistry / scienceThere are no restrictions on the age of the applicant.Host Institution:The Work Programme shall be conducted largely at a Host Institution (Higher Education Institute or Research and Training Organisation) in the UK or RoI.Exceptionally, other organisations outside the above definition of a Host Institution shall be considered.It is normally expected that the Scholar or the Scholar’s Home Institution will already have an established link with the prospective Host Institution in the UK or RoI. Trust Secretary will not normally assist the Scholar to find a Host Institution in the UK or RoI in the absence of an established link.Scholarship Work ProgrammeEach Scholarship shall be for a period of not more than three months.Applicants shall submit a comprehensive Work Programme for the full period of the Scholarship.Applicants, in consultation with the Host Institution, are free to choose the subject of the Work Programme, provided that:The principal objective of the Work Programme is to acquire new analytical chemistry / science knowledge, or experience of analytical chemistry / science teaching, learning or training methods; There is a clear strategy for applying and exploiting the results on the Scholar’s return to their Home Country; The subject should be of social or environmental or economic or commercial significance to the Scholar’s Home Country.The Work Programme shall be conducted largely at a Host Institution in the UK or RoI. Exceptionally, other organisations outside the above definition of a Host Institution shall be considered.Scholars are expected to devote themselves full-time to their Work ProgrammeIt is normally expected that the Scholar or the Scholar’s Home Institution will already have an established link with the prospective Host Institution in the UK or RoI. For the avoidance of doubt, the Trust Secretary will not normally assist the Scholar to find a Host Institution in the UK or RoI in the absence of an established link.The Trustees will pay for:The cost of the Scholar only to travel from their Home Country to the Host Institution and back once only, by economy class travel.The cost of board and lodging in the UK or RoI.The cost of travel and subsistence directly connected with the Work Programme within the UK or RoI.The cost of consumable materials directly connected with the Work Programme up to a maximum of £500; You must be a member of this organization to apply for this award - become a member. Unless already a member, Scholars shall apply for Membership of the Royal Society of Chemistry and its Analytical Division within one month of the commencement of the Scholarship.

Ineligibility

Current and former Scholars are not eligible to apply for a second scholarship.Trustees will not pay the Host Institution’s registration fee or bench fee or overhead charge.
