Supporting grassroots organizations

The Discovery Grants program provides grant awards to Alaska-based grassroots organizations in order to foster a more effective and sustainable conservation movement through funding to strengthen its leadership base, encourage collaboration and help leaders and organizations navigate changing political and economic climates.

Discovery Grant Awards will support:

Strategic opportunities that strengthen the movement’s leadership base, encourage collaboration, and help leaders and organizations navigate changing political and economic climates. Supported activities may include:

* Training for staff and board
* Meeting facilitation
* Legal assistance
* Travel
* Conference fees
* Outreach and Advocacy
* Strategic program expansion
* Up to 10% administrative fee

Eligibility

* Applicants to the Discovery Grants Program must meet the following criteria:

* Be a non-profit organization engaged in conservation advocacy
* Be based in Alaska, or have an Alaska-based program
* If a current ACF grantee, be in good standing with required grant reports
* Projects must be engaged in Alaska conservation and aligned with ACF priorities

Ineligibility

* The following are note eligible:

* Operating expenses, including staff salaries 
* Expenses/activities that have already occurred 
* Equipment, land acquisition, or research
* Ongoing program expenses 
* Education programs or scholarships 
* Capital campaigns 
* For-profit organizations 
* Individuals
