Summary
The AAS Annual Meeting Grant offers up to $2,000 to members hosting the AAS annual meeting. This funding supports various meeting-related expenses, such as banquets, social events, and transportation. The AAS encourages hosts to enhance meeting quality and networking opportunities. Importantly, these funds are not loans and do not need reimbursement. They should not be used for student research grants or as stipends for the host or assistants, ensuring clear allocation for meeting improvement.Overview
Annual Meeting Grant The Executive Committee of the American Arachnological Society has approved a proposal to offer up to $2,000 grants to AAS members who agree to host the AAS annual meeting. This money can be used to directly support any meeting-related costs including but not limited to: Meeting banquetSocial eventsBreaks during sessionsTransportation costs The AAS expects hosts to cover standard meeting expenses through attendee registration costs and encourages hosts to use this grant in ways that will improve the quality of the meeting and the opportunities for networking. This support is not a loan and the money need not be reimbursed to the AAS treasurer. Because the AAS provides separate grant support for student research and attendance by students and retired arachnologists, the money should not be used for these purposes. The money should also not be used as a stipend for the host or to pay the host or meeting assistants for their work on planning the meeting. Meeting hosts should contact the AAS treasurer for details.Eligibility
