Overview

AAIM Innovation Grants

Program Purpose: Small grants to facilitate innovative learning and program development at the local and regional level for AAIM member institutions.

Program History: The AAIM Innovation Grants program began in 2015 and has funded 180 grants to 116 institutions.

Focus Areas: The program supports a broad range of initiatives including:

  • Patient access and care

  • Diversity, equity and inclusion in internal medicine training

  • Health care disparities

  • High value care

  • Teaching skills and faculty development

  • Wellness and resilience

  • Curriculum development
  • Recent Funding (2024): 20 projects at medical schools and teaching hospitals received grants ranging from $10,000 to $40,000, depending on the scope of the program, for a total of $400,000 in grant awards. Eleven Alliance member institutions are recipients.

    Co-Sponsored Initiative: Starting in FY 2021, the program co-sponsors "Building Trust through Diversity, Health Care Equity, & Inclusion in Internal Medicine," a large grant program that seeks to incorporate diversity, health care equity, and inclusion in internal medicine training to increase interprofessional efforts and build a more trustworthy health system.

    Funding Support: AAIM Innovation Grants are supported by an unrestricted educational grant from Aquifer (formerly MedU).
