Overview

3-Year Programmatic Grants

Funder: Kenai Mountains-Turnagain Arm National Heritage Area (KMTA)

Purpose: Support ongoing, multi-year community projects that recognize, preserve, and interpret the historic, scenic, and natural recreational resources and cultural landscapes of the Kenai Mountains-Turnagain Arm historic transportation corridor.

Geographic Scope: Kenai Mountains-Turnagain Arm National Heritage Area

Award Amount: $3,000 per year for three years (total $9,000)

Example Projects Funded:

  • Museum development coordinator positions (e.g., Hope and Sunrise Historical Society - program development and exhibit refinement, museum hours support)

  • Local history preservation projects (e.g., Moose Pass Public Library - preservation and sharing of community history)
  • Eligible Applicants:

  • Community organizations

  • Non-profit organizations

  • Government agencies

  • Organizations that have not previously received KMTA funding

  • Organizations with prior KMTA funding that performed well
  • Application Requirements:

  • Must clearly demonstrate how programmatic grant work differs from other grant projects if organization is applying for both 3-year programmatic and regular community-based grant in same year

  • Both projects may not be awarded in the same year
  • Match Requirements:

  • Cash contributions

  • Volunteer hours

  • Donated equipment rentals

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    Timeline:

  • Annual cycle with application period in January

  • Deadline typically in March (e.g., March 6, 2020; March 12, 2021)

  • Board review and award decisions in May
  • Required Materials:
    1. Completed application form
    2. 3-year project narrative describing:
    - Year-by-year project goals and objectives
    - How work differs from other grant projects (if applicable)
    - Timeline and implementation plan for all three years
    - Annual budget and match funding sources
    - How project aligns with KMTA mission
    3. Letters of support (if applicable)
    4. Evidence of matching funds or in-kind contributions
    5. Organizational capacity and history documentation

    Grant Agreement:

  • KMTA issues formal grant agreement upon award covering three-year commitment
  • Reporting Requirements:

  • Quarterly informal check-in via email or phone

  • Quarterly narrative and expense reports (required for partial reimbursement)

  • Final annual project reports required for final reimbursement

  • Reporting deadlines typically at 3, 6, 9, and 12 month intervals each year
  • Reimbursement Process:

  • Partial reimbursement available quarterly upon submission of reports

  • Annual reimbursement upon completion of annual project reports

  • Program continues for three years with annual renewal based on performance
