2026 Livestock Scholarship

Funder: Oakland County 4-H Fair Association (funded by proceeds from Large Animal Auction)

Geographic Scope: Oakland County, Michigan

Award Amount: $500 scholarship

Overview:
This scholarship is for youth who have exhibited livestock at the Oakland County Fair and are continuing their education or livestock exhibition. Preference is given to applicants pursuing agricultural or related fields.

    Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a graduating high school senior continuing education at accredited institution or trade school, OR a college student continuing to exhibit livestock at the Oakland County Fair
  • Must have exhibited beef, sheep, swine, goat, or calf project at the Oakland County Fair for a minimum of three calendar years (including year of application)
  • All questions on application must be answered
  • A candidate may win this scholarship only ONE time
  • Must be willing to schedule personal interview with selection committee

    Required Materials

  • Completed application (all questions must be answered)
  • Letter of recommendation from 4-H leader or livestock industry professional (not a relative)
  • Letter of recommendation from person other than relative
  • Copy of all college transcripts; high school graduates must include all high school transcripts

Selection Criteria

Applications judged on: 1. Fair participation 2. Leadership 3. Citizenship 4. Scholastic standing

Preference: Given to applicants pursuing agricultural or related fields

  • Winner selection: By Livestock Scholarship Committee based on application, recommendations, transcripts, and interview

Application Process

1. Complete the online application form including:
- Personal information
- Parent(s)/Guardian name(s)
- Birthdate and gender
- High school attended/attending
- Higher education institution attending/planning to attend
- Major field of study
- Year in school (Fall 2026)

2. Provide financial information:
- Estimate how education will be funded (percentages for: Savings, Job, Scholarships, Parents, Loans, Grants, Other)

3. Submit required attachments:
- Transcripts (High School/College)
- Letter of Recommendation #1 (from 4-H leader or livestock industry professional)
- Letter of Recommendation #2 (from person other than relative)

4. Answer required essay questions:
- Community Service and Citizenship: List organizations and activities (church, clubs, organizations, etc.)
- Leadership in Activities: List organizations and office/position(s) held when relevant
- Awards Received: List organization and awards from school, community, clubs, organizations
- Oakland County Fair Participation: List events, years, species/exhibits, and awards received
- How has your livestock project(s) at OCF helped to shape you as an individual?
- What are some ways to encourage other youth to exhibit livestock at the OCF?
- What are your academic and career goals?

5. Verify information: By submitting the application, verify that information is accurate and give permission for committee to verify academic enrollment

6. Schedule in-person interview - All applicants will be contacted to set up interview time

7. Submit application - All materials must be received in Fair Office by June 1, 2026
