1921 Scholarship Fund

Overview: Charlotte Rotary's longest running scholarship fund, established in 1921. The fund provides scholarships to undergraduate students on the basis of academic merit, financial need and community service.

Purpose

To provide scholarships to undergraduate students on the basis of academic merit, financial need and community service.

History

Established in 1921 during the presidency of J. Perrin Quarles. By 1979, administration was transferred to the Greater Charlotte Foundation (now The Foundation for the Carolinas). As loan applications decreased, the Fund was converted to a scholarship fund.

  • Residency requirement: Mecklenburg County, North Carolina

Eligibility Requirements

1. Enrolled in or accepted for enrollment as a full-time student at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) 2. Resident of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina 3. Demonstrate academic achievement based on official transcripts 4. Preference given to individuals whose parents do not have a bachelor's degree 5. Preference given to individuals involved in school and community service

    Award Details

  • Amount: Up to $2,000 per year at discretion of Scholarship Committee
  • Use of funds: Tuition, books, and supplies related to student's course of study
  • Retention requirement: Maintain minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (on 4.0 scale)

Administration

Managed by the Central Piedmont Community College Foundation as a component fund of The Foundation for the Carolinas. Annual earnings forwarded to CPCC Foundation in February each year.

How to Apply

Application Process

1. Complete required forms:
- CPCC Scholarship Application Form
- FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Form

2. Submit to: Central Piedmont Community College Financial Aid Office

3. Selection process:
- Candidates selected in consultation with College's Office of Financial Aid
- Recommended to Rotary Club of Charlotte Scholarship Committee for final approval
- Finalists may be requested to attend personal interview with Scholarship Committee

4. Application materials required:
- Official transcripts showing academic coursework
- FAFSA application including evaluation of educational expenses, household income and other financial factors
- Demonstration of school and community service involvement
