He founded Heidmar Inc. in 1984, which grew to control approximately 100 oil tankers and operated subsidiaries in the oil service industry. He sold Heidmar to Morgan Stanley in 2006 and currently manages Heidenreich Enterprise LP, a family-owned private equity company. He became a U.S. citizen in 2005 and serves as Chairman of Penfield Marine. He is active in philanthropic endeavors alongside his wife Astrid.
