Uri D. Herscher — Director (0.5 hours per week). Dr. Herscher is a scholar, administrator, and rabbi who founded the Skirball Cultural Center in the early 1980s. He served as Founding President and CEO when the institution opened to the public in October 1995 until June 2020. Prior to founding the Skirball Cultural Center, Dr. Herscher was Executive Vice President and Dean of Faculty of the Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion for twenty-five years and held the position of Professor of American Jewish History. He authored several influential books on American Jewish history and served as a commissioner on the Los Angeles Ethics Commission from 2001–2006. In April 2016, Dr. Herscher was recognized by US Citizenship and Immigration Services as an Outstanding American by Choice.
