The foundation's primary purpose is to continue a family tradition of commitment to enhancing the quality of life of the community through grants to qualified charitable organizations.

The Cemala Foundation envisions a vibrant and innovative Greensboro that is nationally known as a magnet for individuals, families, and businesses where:

• Center City Greensboro is the robust hub of the community with accessible parks and recreation, as well as thriving arts and culture
• Every child is developmentally ready to succeed and thrive in school
• Collaboration and community building are at the forefront of civic engagement

The foundation focuses on three core priority areas:

Early Childhood Development — Early childhood development and education are vital to a child's quality of life and community strength. The foundation supports initiatives that prepare children to be ready to learn, recognizing that 80% of brain growth occurs by age 3 and the first 2,000 days of a child's life are critical to emotional, physical, and mental well-being.

Transformational Spaces and Opportunities — The foundation supports ideas, projects, and efforts to build community, including initiatives that range from the enjoyment of nature and exercise to the learning and enrichment of young people and students, and the growing entertainment and performing arts scene in Greensboro.

Workforce Training — As Greensboro and the region reinvent themselves to accommodate 21st century companies and transition from an economy based on textiles, tobacco, and furniture, the foundation invests in workforce training and development initiatives.
